Although decadent and often making the top of the list when it comes to desserts that patissiers are renowned for, chocolate cakes are surprisingly easy to make. All you’ll have to do is find the right and easy chocolate cake recipe to bake at home, channel your inner baker and whip up the best chocolate cake you can make. You can also put your baking skills to the test if this is your first time ever attempting to bake a chocolate cake.

Best Chocolate Cake Recipe

The key to a moist chocolate cake is in the ingredients. Keep your ingredients at room temperature to ensure they will quickly bond together when mixing and baking. It’s also recommended not to overmix the mixture to avoid problems with aeration and gluten development that may cause your cake to become tough or have an unpleasant texture. It’s best to fold in your ingredients rather than overmix them.

All pointers aside, without further ado, let’s start baking a chocolate cake!

How to Make the Chocolate Frosting

While your chocolate cake is cooling down, you can start preparing your frosting. If it’s your first time creating your chocolate cake frosting, you might need a few quick fixes so you can adjust the consistency of your frosting. If you made too thick frosting, you could slowly add in milk to achieve the consistency you prefer. However, if you made your frosting a little too thin or runny, adding powdered sugar to your frosting can help.

Serving Size: 1 serving to layer, crumb coat, and frost a 9-inch chocolate cake

Prep Time: 20 to 25 minutes

Baking Time: 30 to 35 minutes

Ingredients:

  • Softened butter (1 cup)
  • Sifted cocoa powder (½ cup)
  • Powdered sugar (5 cups)
  • Vanilla extract (1 teaspoon)
  • Milk (3 to 4 tablespoons)

Instructions:

  1. Add the sifted cocoa powder into a large bowl. Mix in the softened butter and combine the two ingredients with a stand or handheld mixer to achieve a creamy texture.
  2. Alternately mix the sugar and milk into the cocoa mixture. For every cup of sugar, add one tablespoon of milk. Once you’ve combined the sugar and milk with the cocoa mixture, turn your mixer to HIGH speed for one minute. Repeat this step until you’ve added all the sugar and milk. It’s important to follow this step properly to create a fluffy frosting.
  3. Add the vanilla extract and mix well.
  4. You can adjust the consistency of your frosting depending on your preference by adding milk if it is too thick or adding powdered sugar if it’s too runny.
  5. Once you’ve achieved the consistency you want, you can start assembling and frosting your chocolate cake!
